HAPPY BIRTH DAY SHAIKH AYAZ

HAPPY BIRTH DAY SHAIKH AYAZ

(Born. 2 Mar 1923 Shikarpur and died. 28 Dec 1997 Karachi and Buried at Bhitt Shah near the shrine of greatest poet from Sindh Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai)

The great poet Shaikh Ayaz (Mubark Ali Shaikh) was born on 2nd March 1923 in Shikarpur and he died on 28th December 1997 in Karachi. He was buried at “Bhit Shah” near the shrine of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (the greatest poet from Sindh).

Shaikh Ayaz contributed a lot of things in Sindhi Literature, poetry, Fiction, prose and journalism to give the path to the people of Sindh for the social change. He contributed greatly in poetry but in prose he has great zest how to write and he impressed the whole Sindh through is insightful and discerning writings, weather in poetry oo prose. He is our national hero, who always thought and contemplated for the betterment of Shikarpur, Sindh and the whole world through his peaceful and revolutionary poetry and different media and genres.

We are proud of him; he belongs to Shikarpur, and wrote his autobiography in 4 volumes and the second volume is associated to Shikarpur as a whole. Apart from this, he was advocate; he depicted his experiences and observations regarding the profession in his 4th volume of autobiography. His first volume comprised the journey of Thar and and third volume is replete with his personal loves stories and other things so for. He has given us many books of poetry and prose, he wanted to write a novel regarding Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai's Life, but the dream couldn't come true and Murad Ali Mirza wrote novel on Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai's life.
Shaikh Ayaz rendered the translation of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s “Shah jo Risalo” from Sindhi to Urdu, though he could not write a novel, he gave us another new thing regarding our greatest poet.

Shaikh Ayaz was simultaneously a poet, writer, short-story writer, biographer, critic, social analyst, having philosophical approach and greatly learned person, he contributed a lot in journalism, while he edited Daily Barsat Karachi (sindhi news paper) and wrote the literary editorials, it was novel thing in the field of journalism ever felt in Sindh, he carried on to share certain write-ups to enhance the information and knowledge of the people of Sindh in Sindhi language. This was wonderfully a first trial to inseminate literary and personal knowledge in very impressive and inspiring style in journalism.

Apart from this, he gave us three Operas viz,
Bhaghat Singh khe phaasi (Hanging of Bhaghat Singh)
Ranni Kot ja Dharel (Bandits of RaniKot)
Dode Soomre jo Mout (Death of Dodo Soomro)
This is the genre; a very few people have tried to write on.... After Shaikh Ayaz Aijaz Mangi wrote an opera under the title of "Makli'a Mathan Vijj" (Lightening over Makli” and after Aijaz Mangi , I had written opera in Shikarpur under the title of "Jeevan Hik Raz Aahe" (Life is a Mystery)

Shaikh Ayaz's impression over sindh’s literary and poetic circles is long lasting; subject matter of today’s poetry is mostly the same as prevailed in Ayaz’s era and the socio-political circumstances are going from bad to the worst but no voice has been heard yet as Shaikh Ayaz echoed as accordance with zeitgeist.

He introduced new poetic formats and experienced them a lot; modern literature and poetry was contributed by Shaikh Ayaz for the people of Sindh and he also wrote on world literature, let me utter here boldly that he gave a tongue to the tongueless people; he ameliorated and decorated Sindhi poetry and literature with those classical formats, which were not practiced well after Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. In true sense, though he was born in Shikarpur, practiced law in sukkur and Karachi and visited India, Russia and UAE and so for, he is was the soul of the world, he cannot be confined to Shikarpur or Sindh, even he cannot be delimited to sub-continent but he is the poet of the world, who wrote on the subject matter of Humanity in general and Sindhi people in particular.

It is matter of shame and regrettable that no monument, museum or certain glowing action has been taken at his birth place or anywhere else throughout Sindh, he needs to be focused on and should be worked on modern way, as other world is paying heed to their national poets.

He was captivated just because of his writings and he wrote jail diaries also, which earned great fame and inspired youth, journalists, writers and laymen to stand at the side of truth and creativity. He has died physically, but he lives and will in his writings forever!

Let me utter some words from his famous opera “Death of Dodo Soomro” (دودي سومري جو موت) Act Two, Scene I:

If you go down fighting,
You‘ll have sacrificed yourself for this land;
O Dodo, you’ll breathe no more,
But people’s faith’ll live on;
Your sons, if not, then your grandsons
Would remain parallel with you,
For liberty they’ll crawl
N’ fight acrawling unto the last;
Leave a precedent for them,
Or leave a blank, if you so wish…
For me, you may accept anyone,
Khilji or a dog,
It’s all upto you!
